Description: Octavo 447 pp. First Edition stated on copyright page. Black cloth with silver gilt printing on the spine. Endpapers are colored orange with author's initials in white on FFEP. Top edge stained rust colored and fore edge deckled. Colorful dust jacket designed by Fred McCarroll. Slight edgewear on jacket with two tiny tears at head of spine. One inch repaired tear at top edge of lower cover of jacket. B/w photo of the author on lower cover by Philippe Halsman. Price intact on jacket flap. The novel about the changing landscape and socio-economics of the state of Texas. Made into a film starring Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor and winning an Oscar for the Director George Stevens. With a final performance by James Dean and a talented supporting cast that included Mercedes McCambridge, Chill Wills, Carroll Baker, Dennis Hopper, Earl Holliman and Sal Mineo.
